Owl and Pussycat - Learning Objectives
English Resource Description
In the Spring Term 1 for Year 2, pupils will delve into the whimsical world of "The Owl and the Pussycat" by Edward Lear, along with its continuation by Julia Donaldson, "The Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussycat". These core texts will serve as a gateway to explore various learning objectives across the curriculum. In geography, the stories provide a platform to discuss human and physical features of localities. The unit's written outcomes aim to develop a narrative version of the Owl and Pussycat story, recount a trip or experience, craft an information text about Edward Lear, and create both a recipe for a wedding cake and a fact file on the seaside.
Throughout the term, specific learning objectives are set out to enhance pupils' skills in spoken language, reading, writing composition, and grammar and vocabulary. Students will be encouraged to give and listen to opinions, using Standard English, and to recite or perform their own compositions. Reading activities will focus on understanding different story types, recognising key ideas, making predictions, and discussing the meaning of poems, including learning and performing them. In writing, the objectives include understanding different purposes, planning and organising ideas, and evaluating and revising their work. Grammar and vocabulary objectives will guide students to use consistent tenses, choose effective adjectives, create detailed noun phrases, and appropriately use different sentence types and conjunctions in their writing.
