Traditional Stories - Lesson 1 - PowerPoint
English Resource Description
The enchanting world of traditional stories, often referred to as fairy tales, is the focus of a Key Stage 1 Reading lesson designed to immerse children in the magic of these timeless tales. The lesson's objectives are to encourage pupils to read, listen to, and discuss various fairy tales, as well as to articulate the events that unfold at the beginning, middle, and end of each story. To spark the children's curiosity and test their knowledge, they are presented with a series of images from different stories and asked to identify the tales they represent.
Diving deeper into the structure of traditional stories, the lesson invites children to listen attentively as their teacher reads aloud some classic fairy tales. They are prompted to pay attention to common phrases and words that are characteristic of such stories, including the iconic opening line "Once upon a time…" Following the reading, the children are tasked with checking their understanding by answering questions about the characters, setting, and key events of the story. To reinforce their comprehension, they are asked to consider the plot—the storyline of the tale—and to identify what happens at each crucial stage: the beginning, the middle, and the end, thus gaining a deeper appreciation for the narrative arc of traditional fairy tales.
