Expressing Big Feelings Lesson Presentation
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) Resource Description
The "Expressing Big Feelings" lesson presentation is an engaging and interactive resource designed for Primary 5-7 students. The lesson begins with a starter activity that encourages students to watch a short video featuring Prince Louis and discuss the emotions he might be experiencing. This serves as a springboard to explore the broader topic of managing big feelings. Students are challenged to consider not only what Prince Louis is feeling but also the emotions of his mother during the Queen's jubilee weekend celebrations. The lesson then transitions into a discussion about the importance of expressing diverse emotions and whether everyone should handle their feelings in the same way.
Throughout the lesson, students embark on a learning journey that includes identifying emotions in others, understanding the importance of sharing problems, and voting on the best ways to deal with big feelings. They are presented with scenarios involving four children experiencing strong emotions such as sadness, excitement, fear, and anger. Students are asked to interpret the children's feelings based on visual cues and then discuss appropriate responses to these emotions. The lesson also includes activities where students can reflect on their own feelings and those of others, providing strategies for self-help and offering support. The goal is to foster empathy and self-awareness, equipping students with tools to manage their emotions constructively.
