In the third lesson of Week 1, the focus is on spelling CVCC words, where C stands for consonant and V for vowel. The objective is clearly stated at the outset: pupils will learn to spell a new type of word structure, CVCC. The lesson begins with a 'Quickdash' activity, which serves as a lively review session. Here, children are shown graphemes and pictophones that they have previously learned. They are expected to shout out the corresponding phoneme with increasing speed, reinforcing their recognition and recall.

The teaching segment of the lesson introduces phoneme frames to the children. The teacher demonstrates the process using the word "bend," sound-talking it slowly and filling in the phoneme frames with the appropriate graphemes on the board. This process is repeated with another example word, "gift," to ensure the concept is clear. During the practice activity, children engage in a game called 'Spot the Fake,' where they sound-talk words written on coins and sort them into a treasure chest for real words or into a bin for fake or nonsense words.
