The focus of the lesson plan for Week 9, Day 2 in Phase 3 of the All Aboard Phonics programme is to enhance the students' ability to read sentences. The objective is clearly stated at the outset: "Today we will practise reading sentences." This prepares the children for what they will be learning and doing during the session.

The lesson begins with a revisit to the alphabet through the familiar and engaging Alphabet Song, with visual aids to help children associate sounds with letters. This is followed by the 'Word Breaker' activity, where a word is spoken aloud, and the children are encouraged to break it down into its constituent sounds before reassembling it, promoting phonemic awareness. The 'Teach/Practise' section includes 'Sentence Sub', an interactive exercise where a sentence is altered by substituting words, and children determine if the new sentence makes sense. This activity not only reinforces reading skills but also introduces the concept of semantics. Additionally, 'Word Sort' is used to revise phonemes with the help of pictophones, and children categorise words based on their initial sounds, further reinforcing phonics knowledge. The 'Apply' stage of the lesson involves 'Phrase Draw', where children decode a phrase and express their understanding by drawing, which is a creative way to consolidate their learning. To cater to different learning speeds and abilities, 'Extension Activities' are suggested, such as 'Phrase Act' and 'Phoneme Frame', offering additional practice opportunities for those who are ready for more advanced exercises.
