Jumping for distance - Athletics
Physical Education Resource Description
Jumping for distance is a fundamental skill in the sport of athletics, focusing on the athlete's ability to leap as far as possible. One of the exercises designed to enhance this skill is the 'Frog Jumps over 25m' drill. This particular activity involves participants emulating the powerful, elongated jumps of a frog, propelling themselves forward over a distance of 25 metres. The objective is to cover the distance efficiently using a series of explosive jumps, engaging the leg muscles and practicing balance and coordination.
The '3 Jump Competition' is another exercise aimed at developing distance jumping capabilities. In this challenge, athletes are given three opportunities to execute their longest jump, with each attempt measured for distance. This competitive format not only encourages athletes to push their limits but also provides a clear measurement of progress and performance. The competition aspect adds an element of pressure and excitement, simulating the conditions of an actual athletic event where jumping for distance is crucial, such as in the long jump or triple jump disciplines.
