Medium Term Plan - Athletics - Year 2
Physical Education Resource Description
The medium-term plan for Year 2 athletics aims to provide students with a six-lesson experience in running, jumping, and throwing activities within a competitive context. The intention is to expose children to various athletic challenges that require them to run at different speeds, change direction, and navigate obstacles. They will learn to measure and record their own performances, making basic comparisons with their peers. The plan also emphasizes the development of emotional awareness during exercise, linking it to the intensity of the activity, and the importance of following instructions and adhering to rules.
Throughout the six weeks, students will build their knowledge and skills in athletics. They will understand and demonstrate running at varying speeds, develop a sense of distance, and learn to play different roles in pairs. The curriculum is designed to progressively enhance their abilities in running, jumping, and pushing and pulling towards targets, all while working at an intensity above their usual level. This structured learning approach will help pupils accurately replicate skills for modified athletic events, develop both physical and mental capacities, and refine techniques to improve their performances. By the end of the term, students will have participated in a mini athletics festival, demonstrating their learned techniques in a series of events and showing cooperation as part of a team.
