Medium Term Plan - Tennis - GCSE
Physical Education Resource Description
The medium-term plan for GCSE tennis spans six lessons with the intent to enhance core skills within conditioned practices and gameplay. This will prepare students for their GCSE assessments by developing advanced skills, tactical gameplay, and a comprehensive understanding of the game's rules and terminology. Students will learn to analyse their opponents, exploiting their strengths and weaknesses to gain a competitive edge. The knowledge gained will encompass shot selection, tactical approaches, and specific tennis terminologies. Skills to be honed include grip and stance, forehand, backhand, volley, lob, smash, and serve. The sequencing of learning aims to build on Key Stage 3 skills, increase the challenge, and incorporate pressurised situations for strategic development and decision-making.
The key concepts and processes of the course focus on outwitting opponents through strategic ball placement and shot selection, enhancing hand-eye coordination for consistent shot success, and applying tactical knowledge in gameplay. Students will also work on developing their physical and mental capacities, learning to devise and implement tactics, and improving fitness through relevant tests. The course encourages personal development by highlighting the importance of sportsmanship and the positive effects of regular exercise on health and social well-being. Students will evaluate and improve their performance through self-assessment, peer coaching, and leadership opportunities. The plan also makes explicit references to potential careers in the sports industry, broadening students' perspectives on future possibilities. Each week's learning objectives are supported by suggested activities and differentiated assessment tools, ensuring a comprehensive and tailored learning experience.
