Medium Term Plan - Volleyball - Year 10
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 10 volleyball medium-term plan aims to enhance students' core volleyball skills over six lessons, with an emphasis on applying these skills under pressure to outsmart opponents. The curriculum is designed for Key Stage 4 students and focuses on developing game tactics, undertaking various roles, and understanding the significance of teamwork and a healthy lifestyle. The plan sets out the learning journey from emerging skills, where students replicate basic techniques such as the dig and set, to mastery, where they demonstrate tactical awareness and refine their skills and techniques. The intent is to not only improve physical fitness but also mental capacity through strategic thinking and problem-solving.
Students will progress through a sequence of lessons that build upon their existing skills, increasing in speed and complexity. They will be challenged with pressurised game situations that require tactical planning, and they will take on coaching and officiating roles to deepen their understanding of the rules and terminology. The curriculum covers key skills such as the dig, set, service, spike, and block. Each lesson has specific objectives and suggested activities, with differentiation and assessment tools to cater to individual learning needs. Students will also explore career opportunities in the sports industry, such as coaching, teaching, journalism, and physiotherapy. The scheme of work is designed to foster personal development, sportsmanship, and an appreciation for an active lifestyle beyond school.
