Medium Term Plan - Tennis - Year 10
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 10 Tennis Medium Term Plan, designed for Key Stage 4 students, spans six lessons with the intent to enhance advanced techniques, strategic play, and understanding of healthy lifestyles. The plan aims to develop students' ability to outwit opponents using advanced shot selection, tactical awareness, and strategic play in competitive games. The students will also learn the importance of undertaking various roles, including coaching and officiating, to foster improvement and independence. The impact of the course is assessed at three levels: emerging, developing, and mastery, each with specific criteria for evaluating students' skills and understanding of the game.
Throughout the six-week course, students will gain knowledge of shot selection, game strategies, sequences of play, and tennis terminology. They will also hone their skills in grip and stance, forehand, backhand, volley, lob, smash, and serve. The learning is sequenced to build upon core skills, introduce pressurised game situations for tactical refinement, and encourage independent decision-making. Key concepts include outwitting opponents, developing physical and mental capacity, replicating skills in competitive environments, problem-solving, and personal development. The plan also highlights the importance of evaluating performances and understanding the potential careers within the sports industry. Each week's lesson is structured with specific objectives, suggested tasks, and differentiation strategies to cater to individual learning needs and assessment tools for monitoring progress.
