Medium Term Plan - Football - Year 11
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 11 football medium-term plan, designed for Key Stage 4, spans six lessons with the intent to enhance core football skills and apply them in competitive and physically demanding situations. The aim is to develop students' abilities to evaluate performance, provide feedback, and prepare for and competently participate in tournaments, both as players and officials. The plan focuses on building a deeper understanding of healthy, active lifestyles and fitness. Students will progress through three impact levels: Emerging, where basic ball control and passing under pressure are demonstrated; Developing, where effective teamwork in attack and defence is shown; and Mastery, where students exhibit strong tactical awareness and adaptability to changing environments in the game.
The curriculum is structured to deepen knowledge in decision-making, skill execution, tactical gameplay, and game rules. Skills such as passing, shooting, dribbling, and defending are refined through a sequence of learning experiences that build upon fundamental techniques, involve pressured game scenarios for tactical planning, and encourage independent decision-making and self-assessment. Key concepts include outwitting opponents, developing physical and mental capacity, refining advanced play principles, and problem-solving. Personal development is also a focus, with discussions on sportsmanship, active lifestyle benefits, and fitness components. The program also includes evaluating performances and improving analytical skills. Career opportunities in the sports industry are highlighted, ensuring students are aware of the diverse roles available. The plan culminates in organizing and running a small-sided tournament, fostering decision-making and reflective learning.
