Medium Term Plan - Volleyball - Year 9
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 9 Volleyball scheme of work for Key Stage 3 spans six lessons, aiming to enhance students' technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical and mental capacities within the sport. The curriculum is designed to improve advanced techniques such as the dig, set, service, spike, and block, and integrate these skills into game play. Students will learn to apply complex strategies and deception to outmanoeuvre opponents, and deepen their grasp of game rules and scoring. The progression of learning is structured to build on fundamental skills, increase the challenge level, and incorporate pressurised game situations to foster tactical planning and decision-making.
Over the course of the programme, students will engage in various activities, starting with pair warm-ups and progressing through games that emphasise different techniques each week. Differentiation is embedded within the lessons to cater to varying abilities, with mid-lesson plenaries to reinforce learning points and encourage strategic thinking. The curriculum culminates in a competitive game scenario where students apply all the skills and knowledge they have acquired. The impact of the programme is assessed across four areas: tactical use of three touches, replication of core skills, understanding of game rules, and development of reflective learners and creative thinkers. Career pathways related to sports are also highlighted to inspire students about potential futures in the industry.
