Service Box Challenge - Tennis
Physical Education Resource Description
The Service Box Challenge is an engaging tennis activity designed for pairs, which focuses on developing quick reactions and speed. Initially, players are positioned within the service box and are instructed to start without using rackets. The objective is to throw the ball to each other using an underarm technique, ensuring the ball bounces once before being caught by the partner. This exercise encourages players to be alert and to move swiftly towards where the ball is going to bounce.
As players become more adept at the initial task, the challenge can be escalated into a competitive game. The goal is to make the ball bounce twice on the opponent's side of the service box, with the first pair to reach 7 points declared the winner. To further advance the difficulty and to more closely simulate actual tennis play, rackets are then introduced. Players continue to apply the same principles of the game, using their rackets to strategically place the ball and aiming to outmanoeuvre their opponents within the confines of the service box.
