Medium Term Plan - Tennis - Year 9
Physical Education Resource Description
The medium-term plan for Year 9 tennis consists of six detailed lessons aimed at enhancing students' advanced tennis techniques and strategic gameplay. The intent is to enable students to confidently demonstrate attack and defence elements in competitive situations, understand the game's rules, and maintain physical exertion throughout. Students will become familiar with various ground and overhead strokes, employ complex strategies to outwit opponents, and understand the sequences of play. The plan covers essential tennis skills such as grip, stance, forehand, backhand, volley, lob, smash, and serve.
The lessons are structured to progressively build upon fundamental skills, increase the challenge's speed and level, and develop attack and defence principles. Students will engage in pressurised game situations for tactical planning and refinement, make decisions, assess outcomes, and suggest improvements. The scheme aims to develop students' ability to outwit opponents using advanced tennis skills, increase physical and mental capacity, and improve decision-making and problem-solving skills. Personal development is also a key focus, with the intention of teaching students how to prepare and recover from exercise safely, develop resilience, work independently and as a team, and respect sportsmanship. The plan includes differentiated activities and assessment tools to cater to varying abilities and learning styles, ensuring all students can participate and improve their tennis game.
