Medium Term Plan - Hockey - Year 9

The Year 9 Hockey medium-term plan is designed for a six-lesson duration and aims to enhance the students' abilities in both team and individual game strategies. The intent of this plan is to develop the students' skills to outmanoeuvre opponents through the application of core hockey skills in various competitive situations, while also refining unsuccessful attempts. The plan emphasises the importance of understanding game rules, adopting multiple roles, and maintaining physical exertion throughout the lessons. Students will focus on mastering key knowledge areas such as the principles of attack and defence, using deception, decision-making skills, and sport-specific terminology. They will also work on essential skills including passing, receiving, shooting, dribbling, ball control, and defending.

Learning is structured to progressively increase in complexity, starting with fundamental skills and moving towards more advanced and pressurised game situations that require tactical planning and decision-making. Students will learn to outwit opponents by combining and performing advanced hockey skills with greater accuracy and speed. The plan also aims to develop students' physical and mental capacity through warm-ups and comprehension of game rules. Furthermore, it encourages personal development by teaching preparation and recovery from exercise, resilience, independence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect. The plan includes opportunities for students to evaluate and improve their performances through self-assessment and peer feedback, fostering an environment where they can grow as reflective learners and creative thinkers. The overall impact of the plan is measured through emerging, developing, and mastery levels, where students demonstrate their progression in possession, attack development, replication of advanced skills, understanding of set plays, and their ability to think creatively and manage themselves effectively.
