Medium Term Plan - Hockey - Year 7

The Year 7 hockey scheme of work, devised for a six-lesson duration, aims to enhance the fundamental skills necessary for peak performance in small-sided games. It focuses on the rudimentary principles of attack and defence, with an emphasis on using simple tactics and strategies to outmanoeuvre the opposition. Students are expected to gain confidence and competence in skill replication, as well as a deeper understanding of the game's dynamics. They will delve into key knowledge areas such as the principles of attack and defence, utilising space effectively, and applying various marking, covering, and delaying strategies. In addition, they will learn the importance of modified game rules and how to apply them in practice.

The curriculum is structured to progressively challenge students by incorporating basic principles that gradually increase in complexity. It encourages active participation in gameplay, which fosters tactical planning and allows students to experience different roles within the game. Key concepts such as outwitting opponents, developing physical and mental capacity, and decision-making are integral to the learning process. Students will also focus on personal development, including sportsmanship and British values like tolerance and respect. The program includes a variety of activities, from warm-ups to small-sided games, tailored to improve specific skills such as passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting, and defending. Differentiation and assessment tools are embedded within the lessons to cater to individual learning needs and track progress. By the end of the course, students should demonstrate improved movement with and without the ball, execute core skills more effectively, and exhibit a higher level of tactical awareness and physical literacy.
