Medium Term Plan - Health and Fitness - Year 7
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 7 Health and Fitness medium-term plan, tailored for Key Stage 3 students, comprises six comprehensive lessons aimed at enhancing students' physical education. The primary intent of this scheme is to cultivate students' abilities to replicate specific techniques accurately across various fitness activities and to deepen their understanding of the body's response to exercise. This includes grasping the principles behind warm-ups, cool-downs, and health-related exercises. Students will gain knowledge about skill replication in fitness activities, the body's reactions to exercise, performance improvement strategies, and fundamental warm-up and cool-down routines.
Throughout the lessons, students will enhance their skills in executing warm-up and cool-down movements, circuit training, fitness testing, boxercise techniques, and measuring physiological markers like heart rate. The learning sequence is designed to progressively introduce fitness techniques, both in isolation and as part of a broader skill set, while providing opportunities to understand body systems and exercise adaptations. Key concepts such as accurate replication, developing physical and mental capacity, enhancing skills and performance, decision-making, problem-solving, and personal development are integral to the curriculum. Students will evaluate and improve their own and others' performances, using self-assessment tools and teacher feedback to refine their techniques and deepen their understanding of fitness concepts.
