Medium Term Plan - Football - Year 7
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 7 football programme, designed for Key Stage 3, spans six lessons with the aim of enhancing fundamental football skills to elevate performance in small-sided games. The curriculum is structured to progress students' understanding of offensive and defensive principles, space utilisation, and marking strategies. Over the course, students will develop the ability to deploy simple tactics and strategies to outmanoeuvre opponents. The knowledge component encompasses principles of attack and defence, spatial awareness, and the application of modified game rules. Skills honed include passing, shooting, dribbling, ball control, and defensive techniques such as marking and tackling.
The lessons are sequenced to build on the basics while upping the challenge, incorporating progressive gameplay for tactical development and varied roles within modified-rule games. Students will learn to outwit opponents by combining and executing football skills with precision, adapting and refining these skills to enhance performance. The programme also focuses on developing physical and mental capacities, including sustained movements in warm-ups and in-game activities, observational skills, and an understanding of football rules and roles. Decision-making and problem-solving are key components, as students will identify and adapt to principles of attack and defence, making strategic choices based on ball movement and skill execution. Personal development is addressed through sportsmanship, British Values, and fitness components relevant to football. Evaluative skills are fostered to assess performance strengths and weaknesses, with peer coaching and targeted questioning as tools for improvement.
