Medium Term Plan - Dance - Year 7
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 7 Dance Scheme at Key Stage 3, spanning six lessons, is meticulously designed to immerse students in the world of dance through a variety of dynamic movements and sequences. The curriculum aims to cultivate students' understanding and execution of dance movements in relation to music, space utilisation, formations, and the significance of timing to create impactful performances. With a focus on football-inspired choreography, students will learn to combine steps, gestures, and body shapes, enhancing their creativity and control. These skills are not only physical but also mental, as students will engage in evaluating and refining their routines, thereby developing their analytical and self-assessment abilities.
Each week is structured with clear learning objectives and activities that progressively build on students' abilities to replicate movements, use formations and canons, and develop solo and group sequences. The course encourages decision-making and problem-solving through group discussions and peer assessments, fostering personal development and respect for others. The use of video analysis serves as a powerful tool to help students visualize and improve their dance sequences. By the end of the six lessons, students will have a comprehensive understanding of dance, from basic replication of movements to mastery of coordination, creativity, and communication within a group. The programme also highlights the potential careers in the sports industry, broadening students' perspectives on future opportunities.
