Medium Term Plan - Striking and Fielding - Year 3
Physical Education Resource Description
The Medium Term Plan for Year 3 focuses on Striking and Fielding, aiming to instil the fundamental skills of sending, receiving, batting, and bowling within a competitive framework. Over the course of six lessons, students are encouraged to develop their decision-making capabilities, specifically in directing a ball from one point to another successfully, and to enhance their timing and skill initiation to effectively score points. The curriculum also emphasises the importance of understanding and applying basic game rules and working cohesively within a team to strategically outmanoeuvre opponents. Students will not only learn the physical aspects of the sports but also gain insight into the physical and mental benefits of exercise.
The plan lays out a sequential learning journey that begins with basic ball-throwing and catching exercises, progressing to more complex game play that incorporates decision-making and various roles. Students will explore different striking techniques using a range of equipment and will be taught to consistently apply these skills for batting, bowling, and fielding. The lessons will also cover the development of physical and mental capacity, including understanding cricket scoring and umpire signals. Throughout the programme, pupils will be encouraged to evaluate and improve their performance through self and peer assessment, with cross-curricular links to literacy and numeracy. By the end of the term, students will exhibit varying levels of proficiency, from basic replication of throwing and catching to advanced control and fluency in striking and tactical gameplay.
