Max Maths, Year 5, Try it, Review of fractions of shapes
Maths Resource Description
In the 'Max Maths, Year 5' resource, students are encouraged to review their understanding of fractions in relation to shapes through a 'Try it' exercise. The activity is designed to test their ability to identify and calculate fractions of a given shape. The exercise consists of two questions, each with multiple parts that guide the students through a step-by-step process of analysing fractions within shapes.
For each question, students must first determine how many equal-sized parts the shape is divided into. They then count how many of those parts are shaded to understand which portion of the shape is covered. This leads to identifying the fraction that represents the shaded area. Furthermore, students are asked to count the parts that are not shaded and express this as a fraction of the whole shape. These tasks aim to reinforce the concept of fractions by using visual representation and to enhance their skills in fraction recognition and calculation. The activity directs students to workbook pages 142 to 145 for additional practice and to solidify their understanding of the topic.
