Max Maths, Year 4, Try it, Units of length
Maths Resource Description
In the "Max Maths" curriculum for Year 4, students are encouraged to explore different units of length and understand when to use them appropriately. The "Let's Try It" activity is designed to help students identify which units are most suitable for measuring the length of various objects. They are presented with a list of objects and must decide whether to use millimetres, centimetres, metres, or kilometres for each one. This practical exercise requires students to tick the boxes next to the units that they believe are the correct ones for measuring the indicated lengths.
The activity is structured to provide a hands-on learning experience, with each object corresponding to a different line item labelled (a) through (e). Students are given the choice of millimetres for very small objects, centimetres for items that are larger but still relatively small, metres for even larger items, and kilometres for measuring very long distances. By engaging with this task, students will develop a clearer understanding of metric units of measurement and how they apply to real-world situations. To continue their learning and practice, students are directed to workbook pages 166 to 167, where they can apply their knowledge and further solidify their understanding of units of length.
