Max Maths, Year 3, Try it, Regular and irregular 2D shapes (2)
Maths Resource Description
In an engaging activity designed for Year 3 students from the Max Maths curriculum, children are encouraged to explore the properties of 2D shapes through a variety of simple tasks. The exercise starts with children being asked to identify shapes that have at least one right angle; these shapes are to be circled. This helps students recognise right angles as a key feature in certain shapes and distinguishes them from shapes that do not have right angles.
The next part of the activity requires students to put a tick next to shapes that have four sides, thus introducing them to the concept of quadrilaterals and helping them to identify different types of four-sided figures. Additionally, children are asked to colour in blue the shapes that have three vertices, which leads them to identify and understand triangles. Finally, they are to colour in red the shapes that have a curved side, allowing them to differentiate between polygons and shapes like circles. These hands-on tasks are designed to reinforce their understanding of the characteristics of regular and irregular 2D shapes in a visual and interactive way.
