Multiplication and Division Target Board - Factors, Multiples and Prime Numbers
Maths Resource Description
Target Boards are an engaging and dynamic way to enhance mathematical skills among Year 5 students, focusing on multiplication and division. The objective of using Target Board 2 is to help children identify multiples and factors, including all factor pairs of a number, and to find common factors of two numbers. The activity also aims to expand students' mathematical vocabulary by introducing terms such as prime numbers, prime factors, and composite numbers. Additionally, the board provides an opportunity for children to establish whether a number up to 100 is prime and to recall prime numbers up to 19.
These Target Boards are versatile tools that can be incorporated at the beginning or end of a maths lesson, suitable for the whole class or smaller groups. They are designed to be displayed so that all students can see them. Each child is provided with a whiteboard and pen to participate. Teachers can easily differentiate the challenge level by giving each group a different set of instructions based on the numbers displayed on the board. For instance, a teacher might instruct students to 'Find all the multiples of 9', using the numbers presented on the board. This method of practice is perfect for retrieval and reinforcement of mathematical concepts in a fun and interactive manner.
