Converting between analogue and digital time worksheet
Maths Resource Description
In a series of interactive activities designed for KS2 students, the objective is to enhance their ability to read, write, and convert time between analogue and digital formats, covering both 12-hour and 24-hour clocks. The first activity involves a pair of children sitting back-to-back, each equipped with a blank analogue clock face and a writing tool. One child draws a specific time on their clock and then verbally guides their partner to replicate the drawing without directly stating the time. The children then swap roles, with the option of using cards displaying times in various formats, including Roman numerals, to add variety to the task.
Further activities include whole class engagement where the teacher or a student describes a time and everyone records it, followed by a group review to identify and correct any mistakes. In another exercise, children use a large display clock to explore possible times based on the position of the hour hand, encouraging discussion and reasoning. An additional task involves creating a 'Time Web' where a digital time is placed in the centre and students write corresponding times at the end of each leg, choosing between analogue or digital formats. The lesson also includes a creative component where students design posters or compose raps to explain time conversions between different units, and a competitive game where they select cards to perform time conversions, aiming to be the first to reach a set score.
