The Master the Curriculum assessment on fractions presents a series of tasks designed to evaluate a student's understanding and proficiency with fractions. One of the tasks requires students to use a diagram to identify equivalent fractions, such as showing that 2/5 is equal to 4/10. Another task involves converting improper fractions to mixed numbers using a bar model, for example, demonstrating that 6/5 is equal to 1 whole and 1/5. Students also work on converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, with visual aids to support their calculations.

Further exercises challenge students to compare fractions using fraction walls made of coloured blocks, helping them visualise the sizes of different fractions and determine their relationships using symbols like <, >, or =. One practical question asks students to decide who has more juice left after Esin drinks 2/3 of her carton and Zach drinks 3/4 of his, requiring them to show their working to earn the marks. Lastly, students are asked to order a set of fractions from smallest to largest and to explain their reasoning, applying their knowledge of comparing and converting fractions. The assessment also includes a self-evaluation section, where students can rate their confidence level with fractions on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being not confident and 5 being very confident.
