Time - Assessment
Maths Resource Description
The Time Assessment for Year 4 students is a comprehensive evaluation of their ability to understand and apply concepts related to time. One of the tasks requires Malachi to calculate his arrival time at school after leaving home at twenty past eight and travelling for 25 minutes. Students must visually represent this by drawing the times on clock faces. They are also asked to complete a table by matching analogue clocks to the correct digital times, demonstrating their ability to convert between the two formats. The assessment includes a range of exercises, such as writing specific times on clocks, for example, twenty-six past one in the morning, and understanding the number of days in different months, with a focus on January, June, and February.
Further tasks in the assessment involve practical applications of time, such as calculating the length of the school day from 08:45 to 15:15, and comparing durations, like the time taken by Rosie and Tia to cycle 15 kilometres. Students must also determine the closing time of a shop that opens at 9am and shuts 5 hours and 20 minutes later, requiring them to write the time in a 24-hour format. Additionally, Leanna's running exercise asks students to calculate how many laps she can complete in 2 minutes if she runs one lap every 40 seconds. The assessment encourages self-reflection, with students circling how confident they feel about their time-telling skills, and it tests their ability to match times with digital clocks, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of time measurement.
