Hundreds - PowerPoint
Maths Resource Description
In a series of engaging and interactive maths teaching resources, Year 3 students are introduced to the concept of hundreds in the context of number and place value. The materials begin by breaking down the basics: how many ones make up ten, and subsequently, how many tens are needed to make a hundred. This foundational knowledge is then expanded upon with questions that prompt the students to consider how many ones constitute a hundred. Visual aids, such as a hundred square grid and base 10 blocks, are used to illustrate the numerical relationships and to help students find missing numbers and identify the value represented by different configurations of these blocks and counters.
The resources further challenge the students with practical applications, such as calculating the total number of sweets in jars or apples on trees, by multiplying the quantity in each container or tree by the total number of containers or trees. This approach reinforces the concept of multiplication as repeated addition and helps to solidify the students' understanding of hundreds. Additionally, students are tasked with completing number tracks and determining the truth of statements regarding the quantities represented by base 10 blocks and counters. To test comprehension, they are also asked to circle the odd one out in a given set. These varied activities cater to different learning styles and ensure a comprehensive grasp of the concept of hundreds within the number system.
