SATs Pack 4
Maths Resource Description
The SATs Pack 4 from Buzzard Publishing includes a variety of mathematical challenges designed to test the knowledge of KS2 students. One such problem involves James, who has £300 and wishes to purchase garden furniture. He needs to calculate whether his budget allows for a table at £58, two stools at £19 each, and four chairs at £49 each. Another question prompts students to determine the cost of a flute, given that three flutes are equivalent in price to two trumpets, with a single trumpet costing £186. Students are encouraged to show their methods for solving these problems, which helps to develop their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Further questions in the pack are aimed at enhancing students' understanding of ratios and proportions. For instance, Fran's concrete mix ratio of 5 shovels of sand to 2 shovels of cement is given, and students must calculate the amount of sand in 35 shovels of the mix. Another task involves a stripey scarf with a pattern of three yellow stripes for every two red stripes, and students need to work out the total number of stripes if there are 15 yellow ones. The pack also includes problems related to time, such as comparing the journey durations of two buses between towns, and real-life applications, like calculating the cost of a dog collar based on the total cost of dog chews and the collar combined. Each question is designed to challenge students and reinforce their mathematical knowledge, with space provided for them to demonstrate their working methods.
