11 Times Tables - Box It
Maths Resource Description
'Box It' is an engaging and educational game designed to help players practice and reinforce their knowledge of the 11 times tables. To prepare for the game, you'll need counters, a 'Multiples of 11 Board' featuring numbers that are products of 11, and a set of cards numbered from 0 to 12. To begin, shuffle the cards and place them face down on a surface. Players take turns drawing a card and multiplying the number on the card by eleven. They then use a counter to cover the corresponding answer on the board. For instance, if a player picks up a card with the number 4, they would cover the number 44 on the board, as 4 times 11 equals 44.
The objective of the game is to be the first player to cover a specific pattern of numbers on the board. In the standard version of the game, the winner is the player who covers four numbers that form a 2 by 2 box. For a longer game, the goal is to cover six numbers arranged in a 2 by 3 box. If a player picks a card and all the answers for that number are already covered on the board, they set the card aside and take another turn. This game not only makes learning the 11 times tables fun but also encourages strategic thinking as players aim to create the winning box pattern on the board.
