4 Times Tables - Box It

"Box It" is a dynamic and educational game designed to help players practice and reinforce their knowledge of the 4 times tables. The game requires a few simple materials: a set of counters, a 'Multiples of 4 Board' featuring a grid with multiples of 4 up to 48, and a deck of cards with numbers ranging from 0 to 12. To begin, participants shuffle the number cards and lay them face down. Players then take turns to draw a card, multiplying the number by four and covering the corresponding number on the board with a counter.

The aim of the game is to be strategic and the first to cover a specific pattern on the board. For a quick game, the winner is the player who covers four numbers that form a 2 by 2 box. For a longer challenge, the goal is to cover a 2 by 3 box on the board, which requires covering six numbers. If a player draws a number and all the multiples of four for that number are already covered on the board, they set that card aside and draw again. For example, if a player picks up a card with the number 5, they will cover the number 20 on the board, since 5 times 4 equals 20.
