2 Times Tables - Remainders
Maths Resource Description
Get ready for a fun and educational game that helps reinforce understanding of the 2 times tables while introducing the concept of remainders! Each player will need a counter and a dice labelled from 1 to 6. The game is played on a special "Remainders Board – 2s" which features a series of numbers laid out in a path from the start to the finish line. Players take turns to roll the dice and move their counter along the board. Upon landing on a number, the player divides it by two. A helpful strategy is to break the number down into multiples of ten and the remainder, which is then scored as points.
The aim of the game is to accumulate the highest score from these remainders. For example, if a player lands on the number 27, they would calculate 27 ÷ 2. By partitioning, they identify that 10 lots of 2 is 20, leaving 7. Further division shows that 3 lots of 2 is 6, resulting in a total of 13 with a remainder of 1. This remainder is the player's score for that turn. The winner is determined when the first player crosses the finish line, with the victory going to the one with the highest score of remainders. This engaging game, taken from Get The Buzz Games For Tables by Buzzard Publishing, is an excellent tool for making learning mathematics an interactive and competitive experience.
