Fraction Equivalents
Maths Resource Description
The game "Fraction Equivalents" is an engaging educational activity designed to help learners understand and find equivalent fractions. To participate, players will require a 0 - 9 dice, a 1 - 100 board, and some counters. The objective of the game is to teach players how to generate fractions with a value less than 1 and to identify equivalent fractions through multiplication.
During gameplay, participants take turns rolling the dice to obtain two single-digit numbers. These numbers are then used to form a fraction, with one number serving as the numerator (top number) and the other as the denominator (bottom number). After creating the fraction, players must then declare an equivalent fraction by multiplying both the numerator and denominator by the same number. For instance, if a player rolls a 2 and a 3, they can create the fraction 2/3 and then declare 4/6 as an equivalent fraction by multiplying both terms by 2. Players then use counters to cover the corresponding numbers on the 1 - 100 board. The goal of the game is to be the first to get four counters in a row, whether horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. This game not only reinforces the concept that fractions are equivalent if both the numerator and denominator are multiplied by the same number but also provides a fun and competitive way to practice this important mathematical principle.
