Decimal Make 10
Maths Resource Description
Decimal Make 10 is an engaging educational game that helps reinforce the concepts of place value and addition with decimals. Players require a Decimal Board, a dice numbered from 0 to 9, and counters to participate. The objective of the game is to develop fluency in adding decimals to make a total of 10. It's an interactive way to practice and understand how different decimal values combine to reach a whole number, specifically the number 10.
The gameplay is straightforward. Players take turns to roll the dice to generate a number with a decimal place, referred to as a U.t number. Upon rolling, they calculate how much more is needed to make the sum of 10 and then place a counter on the corresponding number on the Decimal Board. For instance, if a player rolls 4.8, they would cover the number 5.2 on the board. The game continues until a player successfully places 3 of their counters in a straight line—be it horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—and is declared the winner. While playing, participants are encouraged to notice patterns, such as the tenths adding up to 1 (except when both are 0), and the units adding up to 9, drawing parallels with the addition of whole numbers.
