Between Decimals - Compare Decimals
Maths Resource Description
The game "Between Decimals" is an engaging and educational activity designed to help players understand and practice comparing decimal numbers. The objective for the learners is to become adept at determining the relative value of decimals by placing them in the correct order. To participate in this game, players will need a set of dice numbered from 0 to 9.
The gameplay involves two players, with Player 1 starting by rolling the dice to create two unique decimal numbers, such as 4.67 and 7.37. Player 2 then rolls the dice to obtain three digits and must strategically decide where to place these digits to form a decimal number that falls between Player 1's numbers. For example, if Player 2 rolls a 2, a 9, and a 4, they could create the number 4.92. Player 2 has a total of three attempts to succeed and earns two points for each successful attempt, while Player 1 scores a point each time Player 2 fails. The first player to accumulate 10 points wins the game. To assist in visualising the numbers and making comparisons, players may find it beneficial to draw a number line and plot the numbers. It is important to focus on comparing the units first and only consider the tenths when the units are the same, to efficiently determine which numbers are greater or lesser.
