Step 10

Step 10 is an engaging mathematical game designed to help learners practice counting in tens and ones. To participate in this educational activity, players will require a 0 – 9 dice. The objective of the game is to develop a strong understanding of number sequences and the relationship between tens and units in two-digit numbers.

The game is played by taking turns to roll the dice to generate a two-digit target number, which players must then write down. For example, if the number 68 is rolled, players will count from either 0 or 100 to the target number in steps of 10 and then in steps of 1. Starting from 0, a player would count as follows: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and then continue with 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, which amounts to a total of 14 steps. Conversely, starting from 100, the count would be: 90, 80, 70, 69, 68, totaling 5 steps. Points are scored based on the lower number of steps taken to reach the target number. After five rounds, the player with the fewest steps accumulated is declared the winner. This game not only reinforces counting skills but also allows players to observe the correlation between the tens digit and the tens steps, and the units digit and the ones steps, as well as the concept of number pairs that sum to 100.
