Total Bundles - Count in 10s
Maths Resource Description
The "Total Bundles" game is a fun and educational activity designed to help children practice counting in tens. This engaging game requires a 0 – 9 dice, a collection of plastic drinking straws, and elastic bands to create bundles. The objective of the game is to strengthen the child's ability to count in multiples of ten and to understand the concept of addition within the ten times table.
To play the game, participants take turns rolling the dice to generate two numbers, each a multiple of ten. For example, if a player rolls a 4 and a 3, they would collect four bundles of ten straws and three bundles of ten straws, respectively. Players then count the total number of straws in tens to determine their score for that round, such as "10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70." The player who accumulates the highest total wins a point. The first player to reach ten points is declared the winner of the game. Throughout the game, players are encouraged to use counting strategies, such as counting on from a number, and to draw parallels between single-digit addition and their ten-fold counterparts, reinforcing the foundational skills of arithmetic.
