Max Maths, Year 5, Practice, Review of finding fractions of numbers
Maths Resource Description
In the 'Max Maths' practice review for Year 5, students are invited to consolidate their understanding of finding fractions of numbers through a series of exercises. The 'Let's Try It' section offers a step-by-step approach to solving fraction problems. For instance, to find one-tenth of 120, students are prompted to divide 120 by 10, which results in an answer of 12. Similarly, to discover one-third of 18, they need to divide the number 18 by 3, leading to the solution of 6. Furthermore, to determine one-half of 24, the process involves dividing 24 by 2, giving a result of 12.
Moving on to the 'Let's Practise' section, students are given more opportunities to apply their fraction-finding skills with varied examples. They are tasked with finding one-third of 12, one-quarter of 16, one-half of 50, one-eighth of 8, one-third of 30, and one-tenth of 40. Each problem requires the student to divide the given number by the denominator of the fraction to find the answer. The practice exercises are designed to reinforce the concept of fractions and division, helping students to become more fluent in calculating parts of whole numbers. To continue practising, students are directed to workbook pages 146 to 148 for additional exercises and challenges.
