Icebreakers - PowerPoint
English Resource Description
"Would I lie to you?" is an engaging icebreaker activity designed for students to get to know each other better. In this exercise, each participant writes down three statements about themselves, two of which are true, and one is a lie. The challenge for the others is to identify the false statement. This activity encourages interaction and provides an opportunity for students to share personal anecdotes. Pairs take turns reading their statements and guessing which one is not true, with each person revealing the truths and explaining the real stories behind them afterwards. This game is particularly effective among new acquaintances, as it sparks conversation and reveals common interests.
Another imaginative activity is "Desert Island," where students are prompted to think about what single item they would take if they were to be exiled to a desert island. The chosen item should hold personal significance and be something they can talk about for around 30 seconds, explaining why it's important and how it would help them cope with the isolation. However, internet-connected devices are not permitted. To illustrate the task, an example is provided where a guitar is chosen for its comforting and expressive qualities, as well as the opportunity it presents for endless practice. After the example, students are then invited to share their own selections and the reasons behind them, fostering public speaking skills and self-expression.
