Inspired by: Tiddler - Week 2

In a captivating classroom activity inspired by the story of Tiddler, students are encouraged to sequence sentences and craft a short narrative using the pronoun 'I'. The aim is to help children understand and empathise with Tiddler's predicament of being late to school due to an unexpected detour into a treasure chest. The children are invited to role-play as Tiddler, exploring possible reasons for venturing into the chest and describing the experience from Tiddler's perspective. They are prompted to use 'I' statements such as 'I went into the chest because...' and to express how Tiddler might have felt during this adventure, linking these emotions to their own experiences with sentences like 'I felt happy when...' Through this imaginative exercise, children develop their narrative skills and expand their emotional vocabulary.

Another lesson segment focuses on using positional language to form short narratives. The children are asked to consider Tiddler's fortunate rescue by a mermaid and to observe other sea creatures in the scene. They explore and gather words that describe positions, such as 'above', 'behind', and 'next to', and use them in sentences. For example, they might say 'Tiddler is in the middle of the picture' or 'Above Tiddler there is a shark'.
