Max Maths, Year 6, Try it, Recognising equivalence between fractions (3)
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths programme for Year 6 students, there is an interactive exercise on recognising equivalent fractions. The task requires students to identify fractions that represent the same value. For instance, they are presented with a list of fractions and must tick those that are equivalent to each other. This could include comparing 3/4 with fractions like 1/2, 6/8, 5/7, 9/12, and 8/12, and determining which ones express the same proportion.
The exercise also challenges students to deepen their understanding of fractions by asking them to find the lowest equivalent fraction of 8/10. This involves simplifying the fraction to its simplest form. Moreover, there is a practice section where students are tasked with writing five equivalent fractions for given fractions such as 1/2, 2/5, and 1/4. This activity not only reinforces the concept of equivalent fractions but also helps students become familiar with the process of finding different expressions of the same fractional value. The workbook pages 136 to 141 provide additional exercises and examples to support students' learning in this area of mathematics.
