Cops and Robbers - What do I know about the Anglo-Saxons - Anglo-Saxons - Year 5

In an interactive learning activity designed for Year 5 students, 'Cops and Robbers' serves as an engaging method to recall and share knowledge about the Anglo-Saxons. The activity is structured to be played within small groups of four pupils. Each student starts by taking two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about the Anglo-Saxons on the left side of a chart under the heading 'Own recalled knowledge'. This initial phase encourages individual recollection and the independent retrieval of previously learnt information.

Following the personal recall, each pupil then has the opportunity to spend 60 seconds reviewing the notes of their peers. During this time, they are on the lookout for any new or additional information that they did not initially record themselves. This phase of the activity mimics the concept of 'stealing' knowledge, hence the name 'Cops and Robbers'. After gathering insights from their group members, students can then add this newly acquired 'stolen knowledge' to a separate section of their chart. The activity not only facilitates collaborative learning but also incentivises students by awarding two points for each new piece of information they document. The entire exercise is designed to take around 15 minutes, making it a succinct yet effective tool for reinforcing the historical topic of the Anglo-Saxons and their impact on contemporary life.
