Cops and Robbers - What do you remember of the Golden Age? - Islamic Civilisation - Year 6
History Resource Description
In a collaborative classroom activity designed for Year 6 students studying Islamic Civilisation, pupils are encouraged to engage in a 'Cops and Robbers' exercise to recall and share their knowledge about the Golden Age of early Islamic civilisation. The activity begins with the students sitting in groups of four, where they have two minutes to independently jot down everything they can remember on this topic in the 'Own recalled knowledge' section of a chart. This initial step allows them to organise their thoughts and set the foundation for the group discussion.
Following this, each pupil is given two minutes to review the information their peers have written down, looking specifically for details they did not include in their own notes. This stage of the activity is interactive and enables students to learn from one another. They can then 'steal' this new information, adding it to the 'Stolen knowledge' section of their chart, thus expanding their understanding of the subject. The task is gamified by awarding two points for each new piece of information recorded, making the learning process both fun and competitive. The entire activity is designed to take approximately 15 minutes, fostering a dynamic environment where students can collectively explore and appreciate the reasons why the early Islamic civilisation is referred to as the Golden Age.
