Link it! Prior knowledge - Mayans - Year 5

As part of the educational journey into ancient civilisations, Year 5 students embark on an exploration of the Maya civilisation. Prior to delving into this fascinating topic, it's important to assess what the children already know. They will have previously studied other ancient societies, which provides a foundation for understanding the Mayans. Additionally, the students might possess some awareness of historical events in Britain during the era of the Maya. It's not uncommon for a few pupils to have personal connections to the topic, such as having visited Mexico or having some knowledge of the country where the Mayan civilisation once thrived.
