Seasons Review - Teacher Explanation
Science Resource Description
Welcome to Lesson 1.16 of the Year 1 unit on seasonal changes, titled 'Seasons Review'. In this lesson, we will be consolidating our understanding of the four seasons in accordance with the national curriculum's requirements. Students will be expected to observe and describe the changes that occur with each season, the associated weather patterns, and the variation in day length. This review lesson ties in with previous lessons, particularly 1.11.2 and 1.7, and is designed to be safe and engaging with no specific health and safety concerns.
During this lesson, pupils will have the opportunity to create a comprehensive seasons report. They will recap the sequence of the seasons, their characteristics, and the practical implications, such as dressing appropriately for colder months. Additionally, the lesson will involve a mathematical element where pupils, with your guidance, will analyse the data they have been collecting since lesson 1.1, including information on temperature, rainfall, and daylight hours. Pupils may use their previous graphs or create new ones to visually represent the data. This graphical representation can help identify patterns, such as the wettest or sunniest months. The lesson concludes with pupils producing a detailed report on the environmental changes they've observed throughout the year, potentially enhanced with photographs and presentations to the class. This lesson not only reinforces their understanding of seasonal changes but also allows them to engage with data analysis and reporting.
