Max Maths, Year 2, Try it Place value and counting to 100 (1)
Maths Resource Description
In the 'Max Maths, Year 2' curriculum, children are encouraged to strengthen their understanding of place value and counting up to 100 through a series of engaging exercises. The 'Let's Try It' section focuses on breaking down two-digit numbers into tens and ones to help students visualise and comprehend the value of each digit within a number. For instance, the exercise starts by asking the pupils to count the number of tens and then the number of ones in various two-digit numbers.
The activity is set out in a simple format where students are presented with four different problems, each requiring them to identify the tens and ones that make up a specific number. For example, in question (a), they must determine what combination of tens and ones equals 48, and the same process is applied to numbers 65, 93, and 79 in questions (b), (c), and (d) respectively. This exercise not only helps reinforce the concept of place value but also allows children to practice their addition skills by combining tens and ones to form the correct two-digit number.
