Labelling Pie Charts

The Y6 Pie Chart Pack 1 is an educational resource that provides a collection of unlabelled pie charts for Year 6 students to analyse and interpret. Teachers are advised to distribute a pie chart to pairs of students, who will then work together to decipher the chart and construct a corresponding table of data. This hands-on activity encourages students to delve into data representation and understand the proportions depicted in the pie charts. To facilitate learning, teachers may need to demonstrate the process with the entire class before the students attempt it independently.

The pack includes a variety of pie charts covering different topics such as car sales, ice cream flavours, beachwear purchases, holiday destinations, favourite pizza toppings, colours, TV programmes, sports, and library book genres. Each chart is accompanied by a total figure relevant to the data set, such as the total number of cars sold, ice creams sold on a specific day, or the total number of children or adults questioned about their preferences. After interpreting the charts and creating tables, students are encouraged to formulate their own questions based on the data, which promotes critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the charted information.
