Pie Charts with errors
Maths Resource Description
The 'Y6 Pie Chart Pack 2' is an educational resource designed to help Year 6 students identify and correct errors in pie charts. This pack, created by KS2Gems, provides a unique hands-on approach to learning about data representation. Teachers are instructed to distribute the pie charts among the children, ideally working in pairs, to scrutinise both the accurate and inaccurate elements of the charts. The task for the students is to pinpoint the mistakes and propose ways to amend them. It is recommended that teachers demonstrate this process with the entire class before the students begin their analysis.
The pie charts included in the pack cover a variety of topics, such as sales of different types of cars, ice cream sales on a particular Tuesday, sales at a beach kiosk on a Sunday, holiday destinations in 2019, favourite pizza toppings, favourite colours, and favourite sports among children of different age groups. Each chart comes with a specific total number, such as the total number of ice creams sold or the total number of children questioned about their favourite sport or colour, which serves as a basis for the data presented. One of the charts, for instance, displays the percentages for children's favourite sports, with each sport assigned a specific percentage of preference. The objective is for students to practice their data interpretation skills and ensure the accuracy of the information presented in the pie charts.
