Cops and Robbers - What do you remember of the Golden Age? - Islamic Civilisation - Year 5

In a classroom activity designed for Year 5 students studying Islamic Civilisation, an engaging game titled 'Cops and Robbers' is used to help pupils recall what they have learned about the Golden Age. The activity requires students to sit in groups of four and individually jot down their own memories related to the topic on one side of a chart. They have a time limit of two minutes for this initial recall phase. Following this, each pupil is given another two minutes to review the contributions of the other three group members, seeking out any information they themselves may have missed.

After reviewing their peers' work, students have the opportunity to 'steal' this new information by adding it to the 'stolen knowledge' section of their chart. This method not only encourages collaborative learning but also promotes active engagement as students discover different perspectives and pieces of information from their classmates. Each piece of information recorded is awarded two points, incentivising the students to share and learn as much as possible. The entire activity is designed to take approximately 15 minutes, and it serves as a fun and interactive way to reinforce their understanding of why the early Islamic civilisation was known as the Golden Age.
