Max Maths, Year 3, Practice, Converting between centimetres and metres, and between metres and kilometres
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths Year 3 practice exercises, students are learning to convert measurements between different units of length, specifically between centimetres, metres, and kilometres. Toby, a character in the exercise, measures his front door to apply these conversions in a practical context. For question 2(a), students are tasked with finding the height of the door first in centimetres and then converting it into metres and centimetres. The formula provided allows them to break down the total centimetres into a combination of metres and the remaining centimetres. In question 2(b), students must find the width of the door in centimetres, starting from a measurement given in metres.
The 'Let's Practise' section provides further exercises to reinforce these conversion skills. Students convert lengths provided in a mixture of metres and centimetres into just centimetres in question 1. In question 2, they do the opposite by converting a length given solely in centimetres into a combination of metres and centimetres. Lastly, question 3 challenges students to convert distances given in kilometres into metres, allowing them to practice working with larger units of measurement. The workbook pages 160 to 168 are referenced for additional practice and resources to support these conversion exercises.
